This is me getting extremely criticized by the great artist known as Neal Adams. He's was trying to embarrass me by claiming that i was drawing everything the wrong way. A reminder to artists, bring your best art if your going to present it to him or you will be embarrassed by his reaction. He suggested that i study from life to put fiction down on paper. Every other artist said the same thing about life drawing. We should study it, it's useful.
I agree 100% with that assumption. I'm sure he wasn't trying to embarrass you. All criticism is intended to help you grow and this is a valuable part of maturing as an artist. Life drawing is a foundation and some believe it to be the validity an artist needs to become more abstract and stylized in their creations. I would love to see what you let him look at. Bring it in to class on Wednesday and share your experience.
ReplyDeleteOnce you build that validity, you will know that there isn't a "wrong way". What is right for some isn't necessarily right for all.
I will talk more about what artists want to look at when reviewing work at cons.
